Montreal

I will be going to Montreal tommorow, and here is a cool blog I found: Dave Barry's Blog. In case you don't know who Dave Barry is, he is an American (Miami-based) humorist journalist/columnist for the Miami Herald. He also wrote many many laugh out loud funny books.

Proxy Server

I finally got proxy servers working and found a "highly anonymous server" located somewhere in Sudan. Interestingly, half the websites are blocked on this server by the Sudanese National Telecommunications Corporation. The address for this proxy is 212.0.138.27 on port 80. For all those websites that are blocked, a page comes up saying:

Googlemaps

Google maps now has a new hybrid view showing street names superimposed on the satellite view. Cool:)

Also I went to Ikea yesterday for fun (with mom and dad of course). Though I find Ikea boring most of the time, for some reason I went yesterday.

Lunar Landing

Google Moon is a website that allows you to see the moon's surface in a style similar to Google Maps. It is there for the 36th anniversary of the lunar landing. Try zooming in fully ;-)

Rant

[rant] I just hate articles like these: http://www.scandoil.com/moxie/news/company_news/exxonmobil-the-fourth-lar.shtml

"ExxonMobil – the fourth largest company in Norway
Posted Friday, July 1, 2005
The sales income of ExxonMobil1 in Norway was NOK 43,763 million in 2004 – an increase of more than 30% from 2003. This makes ExxonMobil the 4th largest company in Norway measured in turnover..."
I hate articles like these. Read the line above in italics. Read it again. These articles all do the same thing. They talk about something, and list something as being the x-th largest in the world, where that x is anything bigger than 1. Yet they never say what the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc. largest is on that list. The first matters more than the fifth. Sure the article is about Exxon and that company happens to be the 4th largest, but just for comparison and information please list what companies are above Exxon in this list. Like in this one, they say Exxon in the 4th largest company in Norway. Who cares what the 4th largest company is? What is the largest one??? That is more interesting and worthy to know than care about what the fourth largest one is. At least say in a paragraph, albeit say it in a tiny sentence, right at the end of the article is fine with me, what the first, second and third largest companies are. That's what I hate.....[/rant]

NETWORKING

IT WAS LONG OVERDUE (FROM THE TIME WE BOUGHT MY COMPUTER)... IT WAS GETTING NEEDLESSLY POSTPONED OVER AND OVER AGAIN... I WAS GETTING SICK OF LIVING WITHOUT IT... ITS ABCENSE MADE LIFE MORE DIFFICULT... NOW, THANKS TO ME (AND A LITTLE INSPIRATION FROM ANDY WALKER), IT IS FINALLY DONE... HOME NETWORKING!!! IT TOOK ME A LONG TIME TO SET IT UP, AND I STRUGGLED THROUGH A LOT... THE BASEMENT SMELLED REALLY BAD, I MUST HAVE MADE AT LEAST 15 TRIPS UPSTAIRS TO DOWNSTAIRS AND BACK, USED UP 2 FLOPPY DISKS TO STORE THE SETTINGS IN, I MUST HAVE TRIED 3 OR 4 DIFFERENT CONFIGURATIONS ON EACH COMPUTER, AND FINALLY WASTED 45 TO 60 MINUTES OF MY PRECIOUS TIME, BUT BEST OF ALL AND FINALLY I AM FINALLY ABLE TO SHARE FILES FROM ONE COMPUTER TO ANOTHER!!!

MK64

I got a trip down memory lane today, as my brother was just casually looking through ROMs (on the computer) for N64 games. There were many many games that bring back many many memories. Most of the remembrances were from sometime during grade eight or after grade eight (summer before grade nine). That means it was March to June/July of 2001 when all this must have taken place. First of all, all my friends had N64 (no one had PS for some wierd reason). Secondly, we had no homework for some reason, even though I remember we all took the same Honors classes (Ahhh Curry Middle School, with teachers like Katnick for math, Eslick for computers, Goldenberg for history, Minor for English, DeLange for gym, Burgess for French and Holmes for Science). And the science class was filled with so many Spanish people, we got nothing done in the whole year! There must have been at least 50 people in that class. Anyway, back on topic, I remember playing titles such as Goldeneye 007 (multiplayer with rocket launchers!!), Mario Party 2 (or was it 3?), and most of all, MarioKart 64 at Fahad's house. There was everyone there, Jay, Chintan, Prithvee, and Fahad (I even remember everyone's names...). Playing 4 player MK64 seems to be like the most fun thing I have ever done...

Roast and Paint

My bathroom is getting painted and we're having a roast for dinner tonight (with French bread of course!). Yummy!

Also, I have started to update my website; it's been a long time since I touched it :). I am planning on having a new design and content.

Also see my brother's blog at : here and the old one here.

Blue Water, Memories

This is some blue water found @ African Lion Safari. This blue color reminded me at first sight of our days of living in Southern California (specially Irvine) and the hot summer days and swimming in one of the 8 or 9 cool pools to chill off. The diving in the water to get keys or a coin thrown by my brother or sometimes even mom. That was all much fun! Here in Canada, one can only go swimming in the summer, which, if we are lucky, lasts 1 month. So apartments and communities don't bother building community swimming pools and stuff. So even in that month, we have to go to the community center to swim, and that, of course, costs money. It's just not as fun swimming after paying as it is swimming for free.

Since I am hosting pictures at Yahoo Photos, if you click the photo, it will ask you to download it instead of viewing it right in the browser.

For Internet Explorer, it looks like this: (click OPEN to view the picture)

For Firefox it looks like this: (click OK to view the picture)

BTW, click either of the above pictures to view them in this browser window ; ) .

Also, I'll be heading to Toronto tommorow, will post tons of pics hopefully.

http://www.sonician.com/live8/list.html
Get most of the Live 8 concert online in Quicktime "mov" format. I was out to African Lion Safari on the Saturday that Live 8 took place and thus couldn't watch it. I recorded it, with the top VCR (time-) set to downloading the last 5 hours of the show and the downstairs VCR set to downloading the first 5 hours of the concert. However, the top VCR I connected it wrong and therefore it didn't record anything. As for the bottom VCR, my brother was playing Xbox in the morning and forgot to set the TV to channel 3 (he left it on Video 2)...so that didn't record either :(. So I only got to watch the highlights/excerpts from the concerts on the 11 o' clock news.

Photos

Just uploaded a ton of photos at Yahoo! Photos. Yahoo Photos is great, allowing cheap prints available at your door or at a nearby Rogers Video Store and also allowing users unlimited online photo storage!

Canada Day

A picture of water droplets in the shower...

Listening to music on the iPod.

Some ducks found in the Port Credit Harbour where we spent the day on July 1st for Canada Day celebrations with some music and cake.

Fireworks over the Niagara Falls (the purple-blueish area and mist near the middle of the picture is actually the water from the Canadian side of the falls. The July 1st fireworks took place right after sunset. Surprisingly, there were many more Americans than I expected.
